Hello Friends! I didn’t realize, that I haven’t sent anything to get those creative juices flowing in a month! Though as I write this, I realize, that I may have set for myself a schedule of only sending one thought on creativity every month. Though, if my title is Everyday Creative— maybe I should strive for a creative thought everyday? That would be something to ponder.
A brief, SHORT, missive on creativity. Sort of like Kara Cutruzzula does on her substack, Brass Ring Daily. She shares a brief note of encouragement everyday. I do really enjoy her musings, at 30 to 60 seconds to read, and sometimes, even less, they always leave me with something to take away. Perhaps, I’ll explore this more.
Which leads me to the point of this posting. Can you be behind in your creative pursuits? Is there even a deadline? I am endlessly feeling behind in my creativity. I want to be a creative, I want to lead this creative life. I want to make creativity a center point of my life. I don’t think there is any right or wrong way to lead a creative life, so maybe you can’t actually be behind in creativity. Everyone is on their own timeline, their own path. So live YOUR life, creatively.
Yours in Creativity,
Bridgitte
I do regularly feel behind--why? It might have something to do to do with the fact that independent creators have to devise our own schedules, deadlines and plans as well as the works we create--we (I mean me) might just be too hard on ourselves!! Love the photos-that means you’ve been paying attention to your surroundings--key to filling the creative well!
I know I've said this before, but I love the part of The Office where Kelly is interviewing for a promotion and talking about how she manages her department, and then Jim’s like, “Your department’s just you…right?” to which Kelly retorts, “Yes, Jim—but I am *not* easy to manage.” Managing oneself is the absolutely hardest management job! It's COMPLETELY natural for Boss You to wonder if they need to drive Worker You harder, or if they are driving them too hard. It's also completely natural for Worker You to think Boss You is both a jerk...and also want to make a bigger paycheck/get that promotion. We are playing both sides of the coin -- plus working in a field where creativity is our most important "product," just to make it even more complicated! :) None of this is going to be easy or one-size-fits-all--alas! But, I think you've got this, fwiw!
