“Invite inspiration to land upon you.” — For the Writer’s Soul
I found the inspiration for this post, from the weekly reflections offered up by Melanie Steele at For the Writer’s Soul. Each week she provides a five minute meditation, followed by a takeaway and a writing prompt. The bulk of this post comes from that writing prompt.
Inspiration is all around. You only have to open yourself up to it. Be open to all possibilities. It won’t always be obvious. But it will be there. Sometimes it requires a different way of thinking or looking or being. You do have to find it, look for it, seek it out.
When you encounter a thing, an object, etc. ask yourself:
What is inspirational about the object?
What can you equate or relate to the object?
What sorts of ideas or thoughts does it conjure?
Go through all the five senses. What do you taste, feel, hear, see, smell?
You might end up somewhere you never thought. Inspiration isn’t always obvious, it does take work. The work of openness. But I don’t think it should be hard work or boring work. It should be work that brings you joy—makes you see possibility. What could be beyond the obvious.
Inspiring means exciting and motivating— an adjective designed to get you to act. Act on the inspiration. What is it leading you towards— motivating you to do, that is exciting. Inspiration can come from anywhere— even the most random, innocuous, seemingly unexciting things. Be open to looking at the everyday in a new way— in an unexpected way, to create the inspiration. You could find yourself moving from boring and mundane to exciting and extraordinary. You only need to be open to it.
What inspiration will you find today?
Yours in Creativity,
Bridgitte
